The Law War

Chapter 3

World 8200, Designation “Lazarus”

Kameran led them to some sort of overgrown park. It had took them at least an hour to get there while under attack by skeletons. The unknown enemy would teleport the bony enemies near the party. That tactic was nerve wracking but the skeletons could be shot. Everyone saved their magic for worse things. The guns conjured up their own ammo so there no worries about running out of bullets. The real toll would be on their minds and bodies.

“Keep them off of me,” Tefgir requested while looking around.

“What should I do?” Kameran asked.

She figured that statement was for the other two magic users.

“Help them,” Tefgir said and sighed.

Eylen watched as a flicker of annoyance crossed Kameran's face. She did not spend any more time thinking about the good necromancer's issues, more enemies were teleporting near them. No more slow lurching attacks now, these skeletons ran at the team quickly. Some of them even tried to dodge shots. Eylen's tiredness was affecting her aim. It was just a matter of time before an enemy got through and hurt or killed someone.

Two skeletons climbed over the ivy covered fence and jogged toward the team. Suddenly, they stopped and turned away.

“Those two are mine. Do not shoot them!” Kameran screamed.

The skeletons that Kameran controlled headed for the entrance of the park to stop the other skeletons from entering. Eylen was happy for the small break, her gun was getting heavier and heavier. Even Fraenk breathed a sigh of relief. They both backed up a few steps. Tefgir was standing as still as a stone.

A smell of rotting flesh, decaying plants and chemicals reached their noses, it was so bad, the team coughed at the stink. Several bloated mud covered zombies slowly stumbled their way. Fraenk shot one then it exploded like a small bomb, the explosion filled the area with brownish green fumes. Eylen scanned the fumes, she sensed that it would be like standing inside a tear gas cloud but there would be worse side effects than just red eyes and uncontrolled crying.

“Don't let them get too close!” Fraenk said while trying to shoot the bomb zombies at the entrance to the park.

He took out two of them. The explosions made the ground shake. Eylen could see that the heavy brownish green miasma dissipated slowly. It was just a matter of time before the wind or something else moved the deadly cloud towards their area. A quick glance at Tefgir showed no movement.

Kameran cursed softly, the unknown enemy was blocking her attempts to turn some of the undead against the other enemies. She focused and tried harder.

More bomb zombies squelched their slow stinking way toward the group. This time they were being supported by faster moving skeletons and a bunch of the slower ones. Eylen and Fraenk could see what the enemy was trying to do. It was going to distract them with the fast targets and then sneak the bomb zombies close.

“I will deal with the skeletons, you take out the bomb zombies,” Frank suggested as he fired at his targets.

“Tefgir! If you are going to do something, we need it soon!”  Eylen said and cast a chain lightning spell at some bomb zombies.

Bluish white arcs of electricity sparked from one bomb zombie to another. A quick glance at Tefgir showed no movement.

Four, wait, five bomb zombies blew up. The ground shook so much, Eylen and Fraenk lost their footing and fell. Kameran barely managed to stay upright. When Eylen slowly climbed back to her feet, she saw with dismay the brown cloud heading their way.

She knew that they won't survive when it reached them. Eylen, Fraenk and Kameran retreated until they were right next to Tefgir. A glowing pale green portal appeared a few steps away.

“Well, get in there! I will not be issuing any formal invitations,” Tefgir said and jumped into the portal.

The rest of the team followed him.

Unknown World

Cold, dark and musty. Thats what the new place felt like to Eylen. She started to cast a light spell but Tefgir stopped her.

“I will handle the light. We must not attract attention here,” Tefgir warned.

His voice had a slight echo like the place they were in was large and enclosed. A pale greenish light appeared. It was so dim, it only illuminated a few steps ahead.

“This place is very dangerous but we must stay here a day until I can recover enough power to travel to an Org world,” Tefgir whispered.

Eylen sensed something move toward them from the darkness.

She heard a familiar voice laugh.

“Well, you know, I can help,” The unseen speaker suggested.

“Begone, foul Chaos spawn!” Tefgir said in a low voice.

“We have the same enemy, Law. It makes sense that we work together,” The voice cajoled.

“No, I will not work with-” Tefgir was interrupted.

“The enemy that you tried to run from, is coming in 3-2-1-0,” The voice warned.

An explosion rumbled in the distance.

“Its here. I would not want to deal with such an angry foe. Even though playing hide n seek with it among the Guardians sounds like fun. Even such as I might have to think several times about the wisdom of doing it though,” The voice continued.

“Begone,” Tefgir replied and his voice was full of menace.

Eylen felt the air in the area change, now it was empty. She looked around, it seemed that they were in some sort of large tomb or underground space. The dim light made it hard to see anything.

“Follow me and keep quiet. Do not touch anything without my permission. There are Powers here that will destroy us without a second thought. Only by staying beneath their notice and or not being a threat, will we survive long enough,” Tefgir said and pointed to Eylen's guns.

“Those will not be useful here. Holster your weapons,” Tefgir warned.

He waited until the guns were holstered. The group walked down the cold silent halls. Walls changed to hallways shrouded in darkness and back to walls. All she could see was bare stone walls and floors. Once in a while, they would climb well worn stone stairs up and sometimes down. The risers had irregular heights, Eylen wondered what sort of creatures made these stairs.

Finally, after what seemed to be days of walking, Tefgir stopped in front of a featureless stone door. He looked around and then touched the light green stone in some sort of ritual way. The stone door faded away, revealing a dark room. Tefgir gestured for them to enter after him.

The stone room was empty and small. If this was going to be where they rest for the night, it was going to be very cramped for four people.

“We can rest here. No magic except for mine and we will have to still be quiet,” Tefgir said and adjusted the light spell so it was a bit brighter.

Eylen did not care, she just sat down at the back of the room and slowly went to sleep.

Dream?

Eylen floated in a large cavernous space. In front of her, was a swirling greyish haze. She reluctantly passed through it. Feelings of anger and a small amount of fear tried to slide into her mind but Eylen managed to push them out. Past that, there was a slow roiling barrier of smoky darkness. She passed through that. It was like walking through death. She could feel nothing, no feelings, nothing. Eylen was glad she was done dealing with that. Ahead, something was was glowing faintly.

A pale girl with dark smoke like hair moved back and forth. It seemed that she was pacing. The girl turned toward Eylen and she could see that a dark blue crystal was sticking out of the top of her head. The poor creature also did not have any legs, her pale skin just faded away to pinkish white swirls of mist. The girl turned away from Eylen.

“OK, you had a chance to gawk at my jailer. Now, can we talk?” A familiar voice cajoled.

Eylen looked to her right and saw a twisted mass of aged yellow bone that went up to the ceiling. Without even thinking, she floated next to the bone pillar and followed it upward. At the top, a black woman was caged by bone at the top.

The ebony woman opened her abyssal dark eyes and laughed.

“Finally, my rescuer arrives!” the ebony woman crowed.

“You were in my dreams! Who are you?” Eylen asked.

“You can call me I'xazula,” I'xazula said with a laugh.

The strange being looked like she was carved from a block of ebony by a very skilled sculptor. Gold bands studded with blood red rubies covered her arms and legs.  I'xazula's face was round and smiling but her mouth and eyes were dark voids. Other than the golden jewelry, she did not wear any clothing. Eylen was pretty sure that those perfectly round breasts would be cold as stone. She turned her gaze back to the captured chaos creature's face.

I'xazula gave Eylen a wink.

“Let me fill you in on what is going on so you can make the right decision. Ayankycz the Sorrowful, Aya is going to win. The Guardians are powerful but they are no match for someone with direct access to Law power. Once she defeats the Guardians in this area, she will come for your group. Tefgir is powerful but he is weak now and will not be able to defeat her. When he had power, it could be close but not now. Free me and I can send all of your group to a place where he can recover his power faster,”  I'xazula offered with a smile.

“Why should I trust you?” Eylen asked.

“I have much to lose if the Law Interpenetration is not stopped. I would also have much to lose if Chaos interpenetrates too. The current state of Reality has been good to me. It allows me to change when I want, not no change or being forced to change even if I am happy with my current form. Also, I would not trust Tefgir,” I'xazula said.

Eylen did not believe that Tefgir is her enemy.

“I am sorry but I do not trust you either,” Eylen said coldly.

I'xazula said,”Fine. At least, free me. I can get you to a safer place and then your group can continue with the mission. You do not have a lot of time. Once the local Guardians are defeated, Aya will come for your team. She can sense your life energies. Also the Guardians in the other areas of this world will be coming for you too.”

“I will think about it,” Eylen said.

“Think quickly, time is running out. This cage drains my power,” I'xazula complained.

Her shiny black lips formed themselves into a pout.

“If I decide to help, how do I contact you?” Eylen asked.

I'xazula smiled and said, “Concentrate on this and you will free me!”

Something went into Eylen's head, she could feel it curled inside her brain like a cold and powerful weapon. Eylen felt herself being pulled back to her body.

Waking

She woke up with Tefgir's angry face staring at her.

“What does the chaos spawn want?” He whispered.

Eylen quickly told him everything except for the warning. She wanted some time to see if I'xazula was right.

Tefgir turned away from Eylen. He stayed in that position for a few minutes.

He turned back to Eylen and whispered,”Do it now!”

Eylen reached into the quiet thing inside her head. Her whole body started to sting.

The stinging quickly escalated to burning and to worse pains. Eylen started to gasp and pant to try to reduce the agony but it was not working. Before she passed out, Eylen heard a cry of triumph.
